Forget those rumors that The Daily would be announced on January 19. Not only is the iPad-only pub not coming this month, it’s been put on the back burner for several more weeks. Will it ever come out at all?

20110114 thedaily oprahlg iPad News: The Daily Delayed Indefinitely

Rupert Murdoch’s ambitious periodical The Daily has been delayed more times than most of us can keep track of. As recently as a few days ago, things were looking brighter for the iPad-centric news publication, with a splashy press conference scheduled for January 19 at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, California. But alas, that’s cancelled and the whole project has been put on hold, reputedly for several weeks. So what’s the holdup?

The Daily has been in the news so long, I feel like I’ve been reading it for a year or two already, but in reality it’s still a very expensive figment of Ropert Murdoch’s imagination. Just when it seems to be getting closer to fruition, there’s another problem. There’s been no public statement about what went wrong this time around, but News Corp. is hinting that the fault lies with Apple.

The site for the digital newsmagazine contains several hidden goodies, including a mockup of early issues of The Daily and buttons to scroll through the articles, as well as links to social networking sites. Rumors claim The Daily’s editorial staff has been putting together sample issues for the last several weeks. Sounds like they’re ready—but Apple isn’t.
