20110129 battery iPad FAQ: Answers to Commonly Asked iPad Questions

Question: How do I replace the battery on my iPad?

Answer: Fortunately or unfortunately the battery on the iPad is tucked away safely inside the device and it’s not like a laptop or the old cell phones where you can just pop it out and replace it.  It will require a little bit of patience, some of your time and more importantly some of your hard earned cash to get the battery replaced on your iPad.  By design Apple requires that you send back your iPad to get the new battery (for a fee of $99 + $6.95 shipping).  This $99 fee gets you a replacement iPad with a new battery.  The problem is that none of the data or personal information you had on your device will be transferred to the replacement iPad.  This means that it is extremely important to keep current back ups of the information stored on your device.  It can be a real hassle to have to go back and enter all of your contacts, e-mail accounts, photos, music and all the other great stuff you spent time putting on your iPad.

Question: Do I need to have a computer to make my iPad work?

Answer: Yes and no.  The iPad has such a wide array of functions, many of which do not require the use of a computer.  However, you definitely need a computer in order to set up your iPad using iTunes.  The Apple website provides a list of all of the computer specs that you would need in order to set up iTunes and your iPad.  Also, if you plan on web browsing you must either have the 3G version or set up your home for wireless connectivity, which obviously requires the use of a computer.
