This news could be disappointing for photo buffs hoping for a fancy camera on the iPad 2, but it looks like the next version of Apple’s tablet will be a 1 megapixel, 72-P video model.
So what have we learned about the iPad 2 so far from snooping around the most recent SDK? According to a report from 9to5mac, the camera that will come with the next gen iPad will be very similar to, or possibly the same as, the 0.7 megapixel back camera now used in the fourth-generation iPod Touch that has been available since September 2010.
The current iTouch model features Apple’s Retina display and two cameras—one front-facing camera for FaceTime, Skype, and other video chat applications, photos and high-definition video recording, plus one rear-facing camera for photos and HD video recording. Will we see the same setup in the iPad 2?
The clues in the beta version of iOS 4.3 indicate that, like the iPhone 4 and 4th gen iPod Touch, the iPad will have a front-facing VGA camera supporting FaceTime and video recording. The back camera is estimated to take 720P video.
